Bridge to Terabithia

By: Katherine Paterson

Review By: Sr. Iggs

Spoiler Alert

This book is about a girl named Lesley and a boy named Jess. Jess has a little sister named Maybel that is always bothering him and begs to follow him everywhere. There was a big race at school one day and Jess was determined to win, but he didn't expect the new girl Lesley to pass him and win. Then Jess found out that Lesley was his new next-door neighbor when he got home from school. Jess and Lesley became great friends then they ran into the forest and found a rope that swung over a river. After they swung across they built a tree house and called it Terabithia.

The main characters are Jess and Lesley. The adventure was when they built a tree house and had to fight animals. The problem was the rope broke to get to the other side of the tree house and Lesley died.

I thought the book was alright. I related to Lesley the most because I am creative and smart like her. My favorite part was when he built the bridge for his sister. My least favorite part was when lesley died. I would of changed the part when Lesley died so it wouldn't be so it wasn't such a sad ending.

I wouldn't recommend this book to my friends because it had a bad ending. People who like sad books should read this book. People who don't like short and sad books shouldn't read this book.

Matilda

Spoiler

This story was about a small girl named Matilda. She was five and very smart but her parents do not pay much attention to her. They think she isn't normal because she loved to read. Her parents made her to watch TV instead of reading but she was always reading. Matilda would go to the library to read books. When the library person saw her reading all the children books. Then she started reading the adult books. the library person tells her those books are too difficult for her. As Matilda keeps reading those books the library person realizes, Matilda is a bright girl and started giving her books to read. she gave her a library card.At school her teacher also notices her talent and tells the principal she thinks Matilda should skip a grade but the headmistress immediately says "no". Soon after, Matilda finds out she has a psychic power and uses it against the ones who were cruel to her.

I loved this book; I thought it was really funny. Matilda was defiantly my favorite character because she was brave. My favorite part of the book is when she uses her powers to frighten the ones who have been bad to her. I also liked when she glued her dad's hat to his head. I liked these parts because I thought they deserved it and, she was really creative how she did this. I did not like when the headmistress puts poor Matilda in the "Chokey”, because she thinks she is advancing too much.

I think my friends would really enjoy this book because I know they like funny stories. If you enjoy fantasy this books would be a good book for you because that is the exact definition of this book.

Percy Jackson an ordinary troubled kid finds out his best friend is a Satyr, his Latin teacher is a god. Percy visits his mom about once or twice a year. As he watches her vanish by a Minotaur his best friend Grover is laying on the ground crying "food". What else could happen to young Percy Jackson?

My favorite part is when he battles the Minotaur because it is action-packed and exhilarating. My favorite character is Percy Jackson because I can sometimes relate to him. My least favorite part is when percy's mom dies because it's a strong scene and Percy is very depressed. If I could change anything in the book, I wouldn't change anything. I normally don't like fantasy but this book changed my mind about the fantasy genre.

I would recommend this book tho anyone who like myths or fiction. You also might not like fantasy but you might like this one book. This book is pretty long but the words aren't difficult. This is a great book for people who love to spend time reading.

Dealing With Dragons

Written by Patricia C. Wrede

Review written by Petziez

Dealing With Dragons is about young Princess Cimorene and her adventures in the Mountains of Morning and the Enchanted Forest. The princess is unlike any of her other sisters, they all are petite and have golden hair. Cimorene has black hair and could match a man in height. She also wants adventure, her parents say it is not done. So taking peculiar advice from a frog, Cimorene finds herself hired by dragon Kazul, and that is where her adventures spring forth like weeds. The main characters are none other than Cimorene and Kazul. Soon after moving into the Mountains of Morning, the dragons' long series of caves, Cimorene comes across some suspicious wizards. Just what are they up to? You'll have to read it for yourself to find out!

This is actually the second time I've read the first book of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. My older brother recommended the book, and he was right to think I would like it. Correction, that was an understatement, I loved it! I probably relate best to Princess Alianora. She is shy, but not entirely like a princess, and gets along quite well with Cimorene. My favorite character, on the other hand, is a witch named Morwen and her multitude of cats. She is very knowledgeable and kind, unlike most witches. My favorite parts of the book are when Cimorene meets a talking frog, not an enchanted prince, but a talking frog, and a rock prince. Both were very unexpected meetings. I don't think I have any least favorite part, and if I could think of one, I probably wouldn't change it. I believe Patricia C. Wrede is an excellent author.

I would recommend this to my friends, of course I would. I've tried to recommend this book to one of my friends before, she declined. She doesn't know what she's missing. At least in my opinion. I would recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy, or 'fractured fairy tales,' this book entwines multiple other fairy tales in it. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who is not a fan of fairy tales or head strong princesses. Otherwise, this book as adventure, humor, and fantasy, what more could you want?

The Golden Compass Phillip Paulman

This story is about a girl named Lyra who lived in Jordan College at Oxford. One day children begin to disappear. The people who take the kids are called the Gobblers. Lyra and some of her gyptian friends go to stop the Gobblers from separating kids from their daemons, spirits who are part of the human they are attached to

I really like this book because it is full of action and adventure. I think I related to Iorek Byrnison because he is strong and powerful. My favorite character is Lyra because she is adventurous and brave. My favorite part of the book is when Lyra pulls the fire alarm to get out of the Gobblers base. I liked this part because it is full of action and explosions. My least favorite part of the book is when the Gobblers almost separate Lyra from her daemon. This part of the story is scary and sad. One part of the story I would change is when Lyra finds the boy who has been separated from his daemon. I wish he would not have died.

I would recommend this book to my friends. I think readers who enjoy fantasy books would like this story. They would enjoy the book because it has fantastic characters. I think non-fiction readers would not like this story because it really is not based on facts.

Secret of the Tower

The story was about a boy named Randal who broke a vow promise there for he lost his magic. He regained it near the end though. The main character was; Randal he was a little training wizard.

The problems in the story were; Randal got himself thrown on the ground and kicked but someone told them don’t waist there energy on him, he also broke his promise- the vow that all apprentice wizards must take never to use a weapon.

The exciting adventures were when he was being kicked around by the people and then someone told them to stop. Then another exciting adventure was when he lost his wizard magic because of a vow and he was totally psyched.

Randal was my favorite character because he always got in to really hard situations. With out his wizard powers it was hard for him to get through those ruff times.

The Hobbit
By: J.R.R Tolkien

Bilbo Baggins is a peace-loving hobbit that just wants to be left alone, but one day when a wizard and a band of dwarves arrive at his house and start talking of legendary treasure, he is drawn into their quest across wild lands to kill the dreadful dragon Smaug.

This was a very good fantasy and adventure book. I really enjoyed the old way of writing and the songs and chants included in it, they help to lighten the mood and make it more fun. I also liked the creatures, fantasy is good, but coming up with stuff that couldn't happen or be accomplished even in dreams is to much. I haven't read any of the Lord of the Ring series except this book, but I understand how "The Ring" is brought into it. I didn't like it because there are things it didn't explain, like how cave walls can open and close in a matter seconds.

You would enjoy this book if you like adventure and mythical creatures. It contains creatures like dwarves, hobbits, goblins, elves, and even a few trolls. You might also like it if you enjoy adventure and suspense. It has a lot of fantasy so if you like stuff that follows the laws of science you probably wouldn't like this book. You probably wouldn't like it if you don't like riddles or songs. It will keep you reading from the time Bilbo leaves his hobbit hole to the time they face the dragon Smaug.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

BY: J.K. Rowling

This story is about a wizard named Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione. In the story the evil villain Lord Voldemort is trying to find a way to kill Harry. Harry is on a quest with his friends to discover a way to kill Lord Voldemort and stay hidden. There were many problems in this book. One of the bigger problems is that in the middle of the quest Ron ran out on Harry and Hermione.

In my opinion the most exciting part of this book is when Harry Ron and Hermione rob Gringotts (the wizard bank). I think it is exciting because they escape on a dragon. My favorite character is Harry because he is courageous sort of like me. Personally I really enjoyed this book because it is very adventurous. My least favorite part of this book is when Ron runs away because it is sad.

I personally really enjoyed this book. I would recommend that you read the Harry Potter books that are before this one because it can be confusing. If you enjoy fantasy books then I would recommend this book to you. I think people who like fantasy books would like this book because there is magic and magical creatures. I think people who like facts should not read this book because you gain no knowledge from reading it. - Mohnster

Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane

By: Suzanne Collins

This story was about a boy named Gregor who has to go to the “Underland” to fulfill a prophecy. The prophecy was written by a man named Sandwich. The main character is Gregor. Gregor has to kill the bane according to prophecy. One of the problems that they faced in the story was that Gregor lost his sister Boots. Gregor also lost a gian cockroach named Temp.

The most exciting part was when Gregor found the Bane, a white rat that Gregor was supposed to kill. My favorite character is Boots, Gregor’s little sister, because she is so innocent and has no clue what is going on. I like those features of Boots because it is very similar to my little cousin. I really enjoyed reading this book. I think I related to Gregor because he is brave and strong. My favorite part of the book was when Gregor and his friends where attacked by the sea monsters because it was exciting. That part was exciting because they almost died. My least favorite part of the book was when Princes Luxa died. I didn’t like that part because it is very depressing. If I could change something in the book I would probably make the rat Goldshard live because the Bane might not have been captured by Gregor.

I would recommend this book to people who like fantasy stories because it is fiction. I would not recommend this book to people who like facts because it is not very factual. If you get a chance to read this book do it!

Inkspell

By: Cornelia Funke

Inkspell is a book about a girl named Meggie who reads herself into a book called Inkheart, with a special power she has when she reads aloud. The main characters are Meggie, her dad Mo, also known as Silvertongue, and Dustfinger, a fire breather from the Inkworld, that's in Inkheart. The conflicts in the story are that Mortola, the Inkheart trilogy's first villain's mother, decides to go into the Inkworld to kill Mo and capture Dustfinger. SPOILER ALERT! In the end while going to war, Farid, Dustfinger's apprentice and Meggie's crush, gets killed and Dustfinger, by sacrificing himself, manages bring him back to life. Farid though, is determined to get him back, and has Meggie read Orpheus (Cheeseface to Farid) to write Dustfinger back.

I liked the book mostly because of the characters, they are adventurous, funny, and a little bit unpredictable. I really didn't relate to any of them though, it's not like I've ever been read in to a book or gone to war. Also Inkspell has a lot of good characters, but I can't really single any out as being my favorite, but I think the nominees are Farid, Dustfinger and Meggie. My favorite part of the book is easy to think of though, definitely it was when Farid first kissed Meggie while convincing her to come with him and Dustfinger. My least favorite part was that the ending was a little bit abrupt, but then I figured out it was a trilogy...

I would recommend this book to some of my friends because they like fantasy and this seems to fall under that category. It is also a bit adventurous, so I would recommend it to someone who:
A) Won't stop reading a book just because it's long.
B) Likes adventure/fantasy books.
and C) Has read Inkheart.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who doesn't like reading a book that is like the above listings. So no one who likes shorter books, doesn't like adventure or fantasy, or if they haven't read Inkheart yet (if you start on the second book it won't make much sense).

Title: The Egypt Game
Author: Zilpha Keatley Snyder

Six kids who like to play like egyptians every weekend at their meeting area. Melanie Ross, April Hall, Elizabeth, Ken Kamata, Marshall, and Toby and they all played like wild egyptians in their club meeting area behind an old building. Ken and Toby were sort of bullies to the other kids when they as Egyptians until they decided to be nice and like egyptians until they switched their actions to be a lot nicer to the others.
When the kids played like Egyptians they felt as if they actually were in Egypt.

I liked this book as if it was my very own. I didn't seem to be like any of the characters which I thought was odd. Marshall because he gets scared sometimes like me when I get scared sometimes. I liked when they bowed down to the evil Egyptian god Set. I didn't like it when Marshall lost his toy Security and it made me feel sad. I don't want to change anything for this story because it's so good.

I would recommend this book to my friends because it has a lot of expression in it.
I think 4th to 10th graders would like this book because it tells you a lot about Egypt. I don't think preschoolers to 3rd graders would be able to read this it would seem a little challenging to them.

The Hobbit

By: J.R.R. Tolkein

This story was about Bilbo Baggins and his adventures with Gandalf and some homeless dwarves. They are looking for the long lost treasure that belonged to Thorin (one of the dwarves) ancestors. One of the most exciting things that they did was when they got stuck up in trees while the evil wolves where below.

Personally I really liked this book. I liked this book because it was very exciting. I thought it was exciting because of all of the magical creatures and adventures. I think that I related to Bilbo very much because I am very brave like him. My favorite character was Gandalf. I liked Gandalf because he very wise and intelligent like my teacher Ginger TPLC! My favorite part of the book is when Bilbo finds the ring in the tunnels. I liked this part because it was very mysterious. I didn't like when Gandalf had to leave the rest of the gang when they are about to enter the Mirkwood forest. Overall I really enjoyed this book and would like to read it again sometime.

I would recommend this book to all of my friends. I think that people who are into magical creatures and fictional books should really read this book. I think that they should read this book is because it has many magical creatures in it and it is very fictional. I think that people who like only the facts should not read this book. I don't think that they should read this book because this book does not have very many true facts. If you’re the kind of person who would like this book I hope you get a chance to read it!

Chocolate Fever

Book Review By: angiestplc

Book By: Robert Kimmel Smith

Chocolate Fever is a story about a boy named Henry Green who LOVES chocolate, he eats it absolutely any way! Since his parents spoil him,he eats it for breakfast, lunch ,and dinner. He wouldn’t give up chocolate for the world! Until one day in school Henry noticed he had little brown spots all over his body! He had never had them there before and they were not freckles, but they did smelled like chocolate.

I really liked this book, it was funny and it was about my favorite thing...CHOCOLATE!! My favorite part of the book was when all the little brown spots grew bigger and made popping noises. I didn’t like the part when all the boys called him ugly, but at the same time it was funny because he scared them saying that his chocolate fever was contagious and would make you UGLY so they all backed off!

I would recommend this book to everyone who likes chocolate and who like funny books. I bet most of my friends would like this book. If you don’t enjoy anything I have mentioned you would not like this book.
